Who we are
Our motivation, how we work, the weather and a few tips!
It's all about the magic that yachting entices!
Sailblazer was born out of our passion for all the exclusive and varied experiences sailing offers. It puts you at the heart of nature and exposes you and your crew to both its power and beauty as you harness the wind, or relax in gorgeous secluded bays with the sun’s rays and crystal clear waters to charm you. On top of that the cameraderie and connection a good crew can experience is simply magical.
These are the experiences that those of us at Sailblazer can’t wait to enjoy again and again and this is exactly what we are most commited to offering you.
More than anything, Sailblazer is about our commitment to giving you our very best yachting experiences and that starts with clear communication with you
We respect that you have only limited holiday time each year so if you’re going to invest in a sailing holiday it must deliver on your expectations! When you contact us we will spend time getting to know you and the kind of holiday you are looking for, especially if you haven’t been on a yacht before. When you make an enquiry we will want to find out:
-
Where you'd like to sail and/or whether you want our suggestions
-
Any previous yachting experience
-
Your preferred dates and alternative dates if at all
-
The size and needs of your group
-
The kinds of experiences you'd like
-
Any extra activities that you would like to do such as scuba diving.
With this information we will together plan an itinerary that suits your group and proceed with your booking. We will then keep in touch and arrange the exact time and place to meet for the beginning of your trip!
A word about the weather
It would be a great if every day at sea was a perfect 4 or 5 beaufort with little swell and then calm down so that you could anchor in a calm secluded bay and enjoy the awesome still beauty!
The weather in Greece is very rarely unsafe for sailing yachts and if in the unlikely event it was, we would know well in advance and make alternative plans. Be aware that the Meltemi Wind, which affects the Aegean in July and August, is at its strongest in the Cyclades.
Sailing is excellent around Rhodes and experienced sailors can really take full advantage of the Meltemi winds in July and August, which blow on average between 4 – 6 Beaufort and at 3 – 5 Beaufort in the rest of the season.
If you don’t enjoy rough seas – most people don’t, don’t be shy to say so! It’s your holiday and in rougher weather there is much to explore and do on land as well as by sea.
Choose carefully who you go on your cruise with!
Before we set up Sailblazer we went on sailing holidays organised by others and we all have wonderful stories of groups we were in who connected more in one week than a group of friends might do in a year. We also all have disaster stories where the group did not get along well enough and it affected the holiday badly!
So when you’re choosing a group, remember that you will be sharing your living space and washing facilities quite intimately. So choose your group wisely! When we are responsible for putting you in a group we will take our time to talk with you about your group and do all we can to get it right!
Dining & entertainment
On week-long charters each group is responsible for deciding and preparing what they want to eat, shopping and preparing food on board. There is a small oven and hot plates on board our yachts, which can do anything plus a good sized fridge and freezer! We have a full set of cooking and serving utensils too.
Most guests tend to have a light breakfast and lunch and dine at wonderful Greek taverns in the evening and go out later to one of the many bars and entertainment venues, but feel free to do whatever you wish. We do advise you discuss and agree on the details with your group before you come!
